IVF & Regulation

Octomom

When successful, in vitro fertilization can help an infertile couple start a new family. However, if not done with caution and care, the result could take an unexpected turn. Nyada Suleman is a great example of how not to use the IVF process. She is single with fourteen kids all conceived under the process of in vitro fertilization. She had one set of twins and 4 other babies before she had her octuplets or 8 kids at once. She admitted to always wanting a big family and after having six kids she still wasn't satisfied. After her last cycle she had several extra eggs and decided to freeze them for her last cycle. Blaming it on ethic morals, Nyada says she could not waste her embryos because she is pro-life and that would be like killing her children. So as a result she had the doctor implant all embryos at once resulting in octuplets. In a Fox News interview, Nyada claimed that she feels guilty for what she has done. She is now a single mom of fourteen and is struggling to give all her kids the life they deserve. Aside from Nyada Suleman, there have been other mothers in the same IVF predicament. In looking at these cases, it's hard to tell who is to blame. All we know is that U.S. tax payers are paying for Nyada's selfish and absurd actions and soon her kids will be paying as well.
